The Packers are coming off a bye while the Buccaneers are coming off a mini-bye following a Thursday night game. Both teams are contenders and both should be well rested and well prepared, making for a very entertaining game.
Here’s three things we’ll be watching that could be key to the outcome:
Preston Smith
Smith, from a numbers perspective, has been a bit of a disappointment this year. It appears his role may have changed a bit by being asked to more dirty work like holding the edge and dropping into coverage. With Kenny Clark expected back in the lineup, and Za’Darius Smith coming off a monster game, Preston may get less attention from the Buccaneers blocking scheme, which could open him up for a big game. If he falters, we may have to start wondering if this is his last year in Green Bay.
The Weather (and AJ Dillon)
The high is expected to be 85 degrees. Throw in 74% humidity and you have a heat index of 94. The Packers will need all of their depth to pull out a win. This could be the week AJ Dillon gets some touched. Imagine chasing Aaron Jones and Tyler Ervin for 3 quarters, covering Jamaal Williams on routes out of the backfield, and then having AJ Dillon come in and start hammering fools!
Turnovers
The Buccaneers are 3-0 when they get multiple takeaways and 0-2 when they don’t. In 4 games, the Packers haven’t turned the ball over once. This could be a big factor if the ball gets sweaty and guys get tired.
